Black Eyed Peas member, will.i.am has won his first Emmy Award thanks to his video tribute to presidential candidate Barack Obama. The “Yes We Can” production, which was inspired by one of the senator’s stirring speeches, was honored with an Emmy in the inaugural New Approaches in Daytime Entertainment category at the 35th Annual Creative Arts & Entertainment Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony in New York on Friday.

The new Emmy category recognizes innovative production techniques and the use of media enhancement to support content. The video, co-produced by and featuring will.i.am and directed by Jesse Dylan, became an Internet sensation earlier this year, garnering over 25 million views online since it was posted in early February.

The video features footage and audio from Obama’s speech on the night of the New Hampshire Primary. It also features cameos from many of his celebrity supporters, including John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Common, Esthero and Nick Cannon.
