After six years of delays, the long-awaited R. Kelly sex tape trial is set to begin with opening arguments today. Jury selection wrapped up last week, after reported defense complaints about the racial balance the prosecutors seemed to be seeking. Ultimately, the 12-member group was comprised of eight white jurors and four black jurors.

Among the jury: a young woman who said she was raped before, a businessman who said he believed Kelly to be guilty, and a Baptist preacher’s wife, or according to XXL.com.

At the center of the case is an approximately ten-year old tape that allegedly shows R. Kelly – real name Robert Kelly – performing sex acts with a young girl believed to be about 13 years old. Kelly and his lawyers maintain the singer is not the man in the video

The woman prosecutors are calling Kelly’s young victim is now 23 years old and denies she’s the girl on the tape. The defense adds that whoever the girl was, she may have been of legal age afterall.

Kelly has plead not guilty and if convicted, could face up to 15 years in prison.
